Pooping. One of the least discussed topics but an important function for all life on earth. Defecating is essential to rid our bodies of waste and toxins but did you know there is a proper position when performing the act? Some may say the toilet was invented for that very reason but research has shown that a squat position is the most natural way for our body to help release all excrement.
Being in a seated position, sitting on a toilet without support, causes your puborectalis muscle, a muscle that surrounds your rectum, to tighten and constrict. By doing so, this requires more exertion and strain on your organs that could lead to hernias or irritable bowel syndrome. Sitting is not a normal position when pooping! Think about when you see a baby poop in their diaper or when a dog/cat poop. How is their body positioned? Just as nature always takes the path of least resistance, animals and babies will do the same to their bodies.
Here are some benefits to squatting:
- It makes evacuation faster and more convenient
- It guards the pelvic nerves from becoming stretched and damaged which control organs such as prostate, bladder, and uterus
- The colon is supported by the thighs which prevent straining which prevent hernias and pelvic organ prolapse.
- It is a strongly recommended noninvasive treatment in the case of hemorrhoids
- Squatting is also useful for pregnant females by avoiding the pressure exerted on the uterus when using the toilet
- Regular squatting is beneficial for natural delivery.
