STEPHANIE, MAKEUP ARTIST, FOUNDER, OULI’S OINTMENT

WHAT IS YOUR SUPERPOWER?
My life superpower is definitely multi-tasking and adaptability, my makeup superpower is glowing skin and blending. I grew up moving every few years, and have lived in a lot of different countries which gave me the ability to adapt to different cultures, people, and make friends everywhere we went. The role of being a Makeup artist already requires the ability to multitask, carry calming conversations, listening to Production, and dropping into the needs of the person whom I’m working on, reading them, and making sure they are comfortable while working with a time limit. When I became a Mom and an entrepreneur, I realized how similar my jobs are along with how handy these skills are across all areas!
HER “AHA” MOMENT
It was most definitely when I became pregnant. I had already started the transition to natural skincare but wasn’t even looking at makeup despite my Osteopath in London having mentioned to me before about the chemicals transferring to me because I use the back of my left hand as my palette when I work. When I became pregnant something clicked and all this awareness was brought to the fact that these choices had an impact on my baby and my clients' health and I couldn’t undo the knowledge around that.
DR.’S TO CHECK OUT
I have to start with the fact that I wouldn’t be where I am today without my naturopath Dr. Linda Lancaster and my nutritionist Sara Eddison. Dr. Linda Lancaster was recommended to me by a hairstylist on a shoot who had been friends and worked with her for a very long time. When he was talking about the techniques she uses including radiesthesia, energy healing, and detoxification I knew I had to speak with this woman! She has helped me feel human again. When I had my son, moved to LA from London, and had a new business, everything in my body had depleted and I tried lots of practitioners and methods of healing to get myself to neutral again. Nothing was really doing much at all until I spoke with Dr. Linda. Sara Eddison my nutritionist is another person I highly recommend because she works on the whole person and that is really the best way to describe it, because what we all need as individuals are the same but different to an extent. She is great at evaluating blood results and supplementing with herbs to give the body the strength it needs where it might be lacking. She understands and implements focus on spiritual and body energy needs. Both focus hugely on vegetables as a life source, being pescatarian for 20 years I love this rule but saw that I still had space to learn and improve. I also strongly believe acupuncture, chiropractic, and osteopathic along with massage are fundamental for taking care of the body and soul.
HEALTH
I have always had an extremely sensitive digestive system and have always held my emotions in my stomach. All these issues I know are connected to both my constitutional personality which is also super sensitive and has been a part of my health journey with medical issues. I’ve come far enough down the path now to understand that it’s all connected to my endometriosis, chronic fatigue, and everything else that came post-childbirth, moving internationally, and starting a business! I’ve now surrounded myself with fantastic practitioners who help keep me on track.
ON STAYING GROUNDED
I’m not the best at routine! I tend to get distracted or move on to something else, but there are a few things I know ground me and help my day go smoother. When I’m feeling frantic or stressed I usually seek some form of workout or massage. My workouts are Lagree pilates, yoga (but the mindful and breath focused kind), going for a hike or to the beach with my family, and horse riding.
PRODUCT SHE CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT
I genuinely could not live without Ouli’s Ointment! My family and I use it for absolutely everything from my daily and nightly face balm, lip balm, cuts, and scrapes, to hand balm after doing the dishes! It is so simple and adaptable it’s hard not to turn to it for everything!
WHERE DO YOU FIND PEACE?
Outside, without a doubt. I need to have access to nature to feel at peace and calm my mind. I think it’s so easy for us to get caught up in daily business and forget to take in the beauty of what we have around us, what nature creates every day, without a thought, but the pure intention and to breathe in its power.
