Soaking up the sun on the beach is definitely one of our favorite activities, and if you're a lover of the sea like we are, you'll love these swimwear brands that work to not only beautify your body but are also strong advocates for nature.
We did the research so you don't have to. We rounded up the top #swimwear brands who stay true to keeping our ocean blue.
1. Amara Tulum's sustainability story began in 2014 when they became one of the very first pioneer designers swimwear labels to commit to using ECONYL®, a 100% regenerated fiber, for their entire range. They have evolved to become one of the brands that have become experts in the field.
2. Léa the Label expresses contemporary refinement and bold eccentricity. The collections are a balance of minimalism and statement while remaining timeless. They are UV protective and feel ultra smooth—ensuring the best-fit and long lasting wear. Léa the Label was created with the highest luxe eco-friendly Italian fabrics in collaboration with ECONYL®.
3. Palms Swimwear takes a slower approach to fashion by using high-quality, sustainably sourced materials and producing no more than we need. All swim pieces are produced in-house in their Bali studio and are made singularly upon purchase. They adhere to the highest standards of quality and support ethical and sustainable manufacturing practices.
Their core fabric is made from ECONYL® nylon fibres that have been regenerated from fishing nets and other post-consumer waste including plastic water bottles and thrown-out carpets.
4. Every single Peony Swimwear piece is made from recycled and sustainable fabrics. This includes printed fabrics, custom textures and even inner linings.
All printed fabrics are also made from ECONYL® and their custom textured fabrics are develop in-house using GSR certified recycled fibre, such as Repreve®. These fabrics are unique and exclusive to Peony Swimwear.
Lining makes up 50% of swimwear fabric consumption and is often overlooked. Peony Swimwear linings are made from recycled and sustainable content, because their commitment to sustainability runs through every layer of their ethos as well as their swimwear. Sustainable in and out.
5. Baila is setting themselves apart from the average swimsuit companies. They have taken into consideration the reasons why they have actively avoided using virgin fabrics since Baila was founded.
One big reason: Nitrous Oxide. Nitrous oxide is 300 x more potent than C02 and is created during the production of virgin synthetic fabrics like nylon. These synthetic fabrics are also oil-based, meaning that to make new clothes requires further drilling of these oils from our precious earth. Instead, BAILA substitute for non-harmful and longer-lasting materials that eliminate the unnecessary need for barrels of unrenewable oils.
Striving for our swimsuits to offer no harm to the seas that surround us, we carefully source our fabric from a recycled fabric supplier in Italy; Econyl. Their fabrics are of exceptional quality and regenerated from 100% from reclaimed industrial and post-consumer waste such as fishnets and other plastic waste found in our oceans and recovered by our divers in the Meditteranean.
In addition, our plant-friendly fabrics are also human-friendly being certified Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex; the world’s leader in testing fabrics to regulate harmful substances.
